The 3am move: a story from a Movers24 crew

A Movers24 van loaded by streetlight on a quiet Tallinn street late at night

Can you move at short notice, or outside business hours? Yes – Movers24 works 24/7 by arrangement, and some of our calmest moves happen in the middle of the night. This is the story of one of them: an urgent overnight move across Tallinn that ended well, not by luck, but because of preparation, a fixed price agreed in advance, and full insurance on every box.

People assume a night move means a panic. In our experience it is usually the opposite. The streets are empty, parking outside the door is free for the taking, and there is no afternoon traffic to fight on the way across town. What makes a 3am move feel calm is the same thing that makes a 3pm one calm: knowing the plan, the price and the people before you start. Here is how one of those nights actually went.

The call came late on a Friday

It was already dark when the phone rang. A tenant had to be out of a flat in the city centre by the weekend – a deal that had moved faster than anyone expected, keys to be handed back on Saturday morning, and a new place waiting a few districts away. By the time everything was sorted it was clear the only window that worked was overnight. Could we do it? That is exactly the kind of call our dispatcher takes without blinking.

Because we run our own permanent crew and our own fleet of 15 vans, we did not have to find anyone or hire anything. We checked the slot, scoped the job over the phone and on a couple of photos, and gave one fixed price on the spot – the same price we would have quoted at noon. No night surcharge invented at the door, no hourly meter ticking into the small hours. The customer knew the number before we ever turned a wheel.

Loading by streetlight

We arrived a little before midnight with boxes, blankets and tape already in the van. The flat was a second-floor one-bedroom, and the customer had done the one thing that makes any move easy: most of it was already in boxes, with the fragile things set aside for us to wrap. That preparation is half the story of why the night stayed calm. We padded the corners, wrapped the television and the mirror, carried the wardrobe down in pieces, and worked quietly so the neighbours slept through it.

By two in the morning the van was loaded and strapped, the flat was swept empty, and the only sound on the street was the tailgate closing. There is a particular satisfaction in an empty room at that hour – the job visibly half done, the hard part behind you, and a clear run across a sleeping city ahead.

Need to move sooner than feels possible? Movers24 takes urgent and out-of-hours jobs 24/7 by arrangement, with one fixed price agreed in writing before we start and full cargo insurance on every box. Get a fixed-price quote and we will tell you straight away if we can hold your slot.

The part that made it work: preparation

It would be easy to tell this as a story about heroics – the crew that rode to the rescue at midnight. It is not. The reason it went smoothly is dull and deliberate: the van was stocked before the call ever came, the route was checked, the price was fixed so nobody was negotiating at 1am, and the insurance was already in place. Nothing about that night was improvised. That is the whole point.

It is the same lesson we have carried since we started the company with a single van back in 2018: the calm move is the prepared move. When the plan is solid, the hour on the clock stops mattering. A 3am job and a midday one are run the same way, by the same people, to the same standard.

Keys handed over at sunrise

We unloaded at the new address in the quiet before dawn, carried the boxes to the right rooms, rebuilt the bed first so there was somewhere to sleep, and set the kitchen boxes on the counter for the morning. By the time the sky started to grey over Tallinn, the van was empty and the new flat was a home in progress rather than a pile in a hallway.

The customer paid exactly the price we had agreed on the phone – not a euro more for the hour – and went to sleep in the old place one last time before handing the keys back at nine. Nothing was lost, nothing was broken, and everything had been covered by full insurance from the first box to the last. That is the ending we want every move to have, and it is why “it was honestly the easy part” is the sentence we are proudest of, whatever time the clock says.

Frequently asked questions

Can Movers24 move at short notice or overnight?

Yes. Movers24 works 24/7 by arrangement, including evenings, nights and weekends. With our own permanent crew and fleet of 15 vans we can take on urgent and same-day moves around Tallinn when a key date suddenly changes. The sooner you call, the more likely we can hold the slot, but late and last-minute requests are part of the job.

Does an urgent or night move cost more?

The price is still a single fixed quote agreed in writing before we start, so there are no surprises at the end. An out-of-hours or short-notice job is scoped the same way as any other move, and you are told the full price up front rather than watching an hourly meter run through the night.

Is everything insured on a late-night move?

Yes. Every Movers24 move carries full cargo insurance, whatever the hour. A move that happens at 3am is planned, packed and protected exactly like a daytime one, so your belongings are covered the whole way from the old door to the new one.
